Bland started his career in health care, serving as a Human Relations and Marketing Director at GA Carmichael Family Health Center in Canton, Mississippi. It was a 150 person organization that served 15 sites. Bland enjoyed his career and helping people so much that when another job opportunity came available with State Farm he disregarded it.

“I got a letter for a business opportunity with State Farm. I was loving my job and I threw the letter in the garbage. My dad asked me if I had called State Farm back and I told him I threw the letter away. He told me to get the letter out of the garbage and call them,” Bland said. “I dug the spoiled letter out of the garbage and the rest is history.”

Bland became a second generation agent for State Farm and moved to Meridian where he rented out a building on 14th Street. In April 2006 he purchased land and built his own building currently located at 1602 24th Avenue in Meridian.

Percy Bland is a graduate of Xavier University of New Orleans and received his Master’s of Public Health from University of Southern Mississippi. His Insurance Agency has a staff that combined have over 50 years experience in insurance and financial services.

They have received Chairman’s Circle Targets of Excellence, Travel Qualifier, and are at the top three percent of all agents in production out of 18 thousand State Farm Agents worldwide.

Bland sponsors his own after school program called EduTech which provides children with free after school tutoring. He currently has over 20 students participating at Magnolia Middle School and Meridian High School. Students must enroll in their first semester to participate in second semester. The tutors are teachers and administrators from the high school.

As a basketball player himself, Bland coaches the adult city league and has sponsored a basketball camp the last four years for students ages eight to 17 years old. This year he held a one day camp. These camps are headed by coaches at various colleges including his brother-in-law, Dwayne Killings, who is a coach at Boston University.

“I enjoy being part of the community,” Bland said. “I enjoy being able to help people manage their risks and explaining the process to people.” Bland says it is fun being part of the process that couples go through from getting married to buying a house to having babies and his agency sticks with them all the way.
