Dandy Dozen pick Cody Prewitt raced 51 yards on the first play of scrimmage Thursday night in Stringer to give his Saints a 7-0 advantage they would never relinquish. Prewitt, the SBA quarterback, kept on an option play to the left, found the sideline and outran the Red Devils for the score just 16 seconds into the game. Prewitt would later score on a 68-yard jaunt that included an acrobatic leap over a Stringer defender in front of the SBA coaches. Prewitt was running up the sidelines when a Stringer defender flew in toward his legs. Prewitt went airborne over the defender’s head, to the disbelief of the crowd, maintained his balance and added his second score at the 2:59 mark of the second quarter. He would finish with 181 rushing yards and was 1 of 2 passing. Prewitt’s two scores were separated by a scoring run from tailback Zach Gregory, who punched the ball in from a yard away with 7:21 left in the second.
SBA was up 20-0 before Stringer mounted a big comeback. The Red Devils’ Jeremiah Chandler scored on a quarterback keeper with 18 seconds left in the opening half to give Stringer some momentum going into the intermission. Stringer’s defense came up with a safety in the third quarter to shave the lead to 20-9, and then added a scoring toss to Josh Chandler with five minutes left in the game to pull within 20-15. SBA mounted a big defensive stand late in the game to preserve the win.
