The Bay Springs mayor and Board of Aldermen met on Tuesday, August 3 at the Bay Springs City Hall at 7 p.m. Colquitt Odom and Tom Wagoner with Happy Healthy Pet Adoption met with the board to discuss an agreement made last year between the two to connect HHPA with the city sewer line. The mayor apologized for the delay; he thought the work had been done. The mayor asked Kendrick Blakeney to begin the work as soon as possible.

The board met again with Greg Gearhart of WGK Engineers to discuss entering a professional services agreement in order to apply for a wastewater grant loan program. Initially, the city will pay eleven thousand dollars to WGK Engineers to apply for the grant. Based on eligibility requirements, it was reported to the aldermen last meeting, and this meeting as well, the city has a good chance of receiving grant money. It is estimated that the total cost of the sewer system improvements is $588,500. With this grant, seventy five percent of the total cost could come from grant money, if approved.

It was also decided not to renew the city’s agreement with Waste Management. The city will use the same company as the county, ADSI, for garbage pick up. ADSI will begin pick up in November.

Other items discussed include, but not limited to the disposal of cross tie mats at Industrial Park, fire hydrant maintenance, purchasing blinds for City Hall and Mid Continent contract release.
