Stringer senior lineman David Brown––spent his Saturday, April 10 for a good cause. For his senior project, Brown wanted to do something that reflected the profession he hopes to have one day. The Jones County Junior College football scholarship recipient held a youth football camp near the home of Larry and Liz Jenkins in Stringer. Over 20 boys, from fourth to sixth grade, participated in the camp. Brown had some excellent help. Fellow football players Trey Heard, Ben Benison, Kolby Waldrup, Bre Gavin, Jalen Beavers, Jeremiah Chandler, Josh Chandler, Perry Williams and Justin “Turtle” Anderson helped. During the morning, the boys were split into several groups: linemen, running backs/receivers and quarterbacks, where they learned from the high school players they watched the year before on Friday nights. They ran drills and learned the fundamentals of the sport. Many parents watched from lawn chairs and talked about how excited they were for their boys to learn the fundamentals from older boys they looked up to. At the end of the day, each participant received a certificate of completion for their part in the camp. Brown said that he plans to continue holding the camp each year.
