hursday board meeting on February 4, the Taylorsville Board of Aldermen approved a payment of approximately $59,000 to Griner Drilling for work done on the water wells. Part of the bill was from 2008, and had not been paid because the work was expected to be covered under a grant. Since the grant was not granted for that particular work, the town did pay it. However, there is a possibility that a grant will still pay for some of the work and reimburse the town.

Taylorsville volunteer fireman and first responder Arthur Newman made a request on behalf of Assistant Fire Chief, Randy Lowery, for the board’s permission to bid on a rescue truck offered by an online website.

“The fire department has about $10,000 in an account for a a rescue truck, and we would like to bid up to that amount for this truck. The truck we have is in pretty bad shape, and we are going to need a better one before too long,” Newman said.

Aldermen Dennis Robinson made a motion to deny the request, asking ‘how many of us would buy a vehicle this way’. The motion died for lack of a second.

The board asked Mayor Rosalyn Glenn to check further into the bidding process for the vehicle.

In other business the board:

*adopted a resolution recognizing the Boy Scouts of America on their 100th anniversary

*accepted a bid from Ruby Keyes for $750 for the Pontiac GrandAm seized by the Taylorsville Police Department.

The board recessed until later this month.
