Laurel High School Tornado tennis team ends year strong

With a team record of 8-5 and a second place district finish, the Laurel High School Tornado tennis team ended the year strong. In the first round of playoffs, LHS defeated Stone County to advance to the semifinals of South State Championship play before losing to St. Stanislaus, 4-3. Individual accomplishments include district championships by the girls’ double team of Shelby Gatewood and Mary Parker Burson and the mixed doubles team of Josh Agee and Anna Axton. Agee and Axton also finished second in the mixed doubles tournament at the state championship, which was held at Ridgeland Tennis Center in Ridgeland, Miss.
