Stringer continued to fight for a chance to play at South State by traveling to East Webster on Saturday night. Hard rain at the end of the first inning suspended the rest of the game with the conclusionscheduled Monday night. Early Monday night, the outcome looked dire as East Webster pulled a 3-0 lead by the third inning and a 5-1 to start off the seventh inning, but that’s when the momentum kicked in.
The Red Devils rallied for six runs to pull an amazing 7-5 victory to sweep the series, leaving the East Webster team feeling like their season ended way too quickly.
The Red Devils now look to the South State Championship against St. Aloysius to take place at the end of this week. The first game will take place at home on Thursday night, so arrive early if you want a seat. The second will take place in Vicksburg. If a third game is needed, it will take place before a standing-room only crowd at Stringer on Saturday. These games will be a repeat of the District Championship, which Stringer won. Both teams have a victory over the other on their home turf, but Stringer beat St. Al. by more points, giving them the district title.
It should be a close call, but after sweeping the defending state champs, and the favorites to win state, the Red Devils are ready for anything.
