The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department and Mississippi Bureau of Investigations has made six arrests stemming from a string of interstate robberies and home burglaries. According to Jasper County Sheriff Kenneth Cross, six males have been arrested and charge with various counts of burglary, armed robberies and/or aggravated assault.
According to Cross, Randy Johnson and Eric Johnson with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations are investigating three robberies of vehicles on Interstate 49 near the Vossburg exit. The robberies are said to have taken place on March 15, 17 and 25. One incident, on March 25, left an 18-wheeler driver in critical condition. According to various reports, the driver had pulled over on the ramp at the Vossburg exit. Several men approached his truck. At some point, the unidentified male was shot. He was, however, able to take a gun away from one of the suspects. The gun was discovered to have been stolen from a house burglary being investigated by Chris Sargeant and Thad Windham with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office. That burglary was believed to have taken place on March 16. The victim is still in critical condition but is expected to make a full recovery.
The Jasper County Sheriff Department set up a series of roadblocks in attempts to capture the suspects.
Those arrested where Andreco Guston, 19, charged with armed robbery, burglary and aggravated assault. Dansten Hosey, 18, was charged with two counts of armed robbery, and one count of aggravated assault. Tomais Coleman, 19, and Edward Dennis, 19, have been charged with one county of burglary. Jonathan Buxton, 17, has been charged with one count of armed robbery and one count of aggravated assault. Because his charges are felony offenses, he will be charged as an adult. Another male, age 16, has been charged with one count of burglary. Because of his age, his name will not be released. Cross said that the suspects are mainly from the Vossburg, Beaver Meadow and Salem Communities, mostly from east of Heidelberg. He said that some may have claimed to have some sort of ties to a gang, but said that the sheriff’s department is taken those claims seriously.
All suspects, but one, have made bail.
Cross said that three or four guns have since been recovered from a home burglary off of County Road 5033. A total of about nine guns were taken from that home. He said that the house was broken into later. This time, shells and a stereo were taken.
Cross added that the sheriff’s department has been investigating a series of burglaries on Highway 11 and in the Wesley Chapel community.
The Jasper County News has attempted to contact the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations for a statement and has not been able to do so.
