Laurel Police Department detectives are looking for Kenneth Lee Dean, 20, to question about a shooting on Roberts Street Wednesday night. LPD Sergeant Jim Thornhill called Dean a “person of interest” and said the LPD wants to interview him regarding an altercation that took place around the 1400 block of Roberts Street shortly after 8 p.m. last night. Dean is known as “Kenny” or “Ken Ken” on the street. He is approximately 5’8” and 125 pounds. Dean normally resides in the south Laurel area, but he has family around Soso.

Authorities believe he may be in that area.

From information gleaned by law enforcement authorities so far, an argument between two black males led to a fight. As one of the combatants tried to run away, several shots were fired, and the fleeing man was struck. The name of the injured man is not being released by authorities at this time. The victim was taken to South Central Regional Medical Center, where he underwent surgery late last night. According to officials, the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

Thornhill said some evidence has been collected at the scene, and it appears a small-caliber handgun, perhaps a .25-caliber, was used in the shooting. If anyone has any additional information about the altercation and shooting or knows the whereabouts of Kenny Dean, please contact the LPD at 601-425-4711.
