One of the largest crowds, yet, appeared at the National Day of Prayer breakfast, held in Bay Springs City Hall. Among those who prayed publicly or read Scripture from the Bible were the Rev. David Slaughter, the Rev. Homer Kemp, Mary Martin, Jody Fail and Zach Buckley.
On hand for musical entertainment was gospel trio, Good H2O, comprised of Ed Meadows, his daughter, Naomi and Jasper County native, Cindy King. The group was recently named “Best Mixed Group of the Year” at the 2009 Mississippi State Quartet Convention. All three are members of Edon Baptist Church in Stringer, where Ed serves as worship leader.
The speaker for the occasion was State Auditor Stacey E. Pickering. Pickering said, “The most important thing I can be doing as an elected official on the National Day of Prayer is to be here, praying with you.”
He told the group that what this nation needs is for its people to do three things: 1. Be attentive to God’s Word, the Bible; 2. Be humble before God; and 3. Have an attitude of action.
