United States Air Force Master Sergeant Retired James R. Whittington (21 years service) and United States Army veteran Benjy Hornsby (8 years service), who is also a member of the NEJ faculty, recently presented Northeast Jones High School with a new 6’ x 10’ American flag. The flag was provided by the National Association of Uniformed Services (NAUS) and other patriotic organizations at the request of MSGT Retired Whittington. Accepting the new flag on behalf of the Northeast Jones faculty, staff, and student body, supervising principal Cooper Pope stated, “We are extremely honored to accept this flag. It will be raised each day to fly as a symbol of our hard won freedom and in honor of those who sacrificed for and daily protect that freedom!” Pope, assisted by Coach Hornsby and Gary Townsend, 11th & 12th grade principal, then raised the flag to fly over the NEJ campus. As the new flag rose to shine in the brilliant sunlight, rippling in a gentle breeze, NEJ senior Kimberly Page sang the national anthem. Attending the presentation were NEJ Middle School principal Marie Keyes, 9th & 10th grade principal Eric Walters, athletic director Keith Braddock, and a number of Northeast Jones students. L-R: Kim Page, Beckie Thrash, Benjy Hornsby, Jack R. Whittington, Cooper Pope, Marie Keyes, Gary Townsend, Keith Braddock, Eric Walters. Northeast Jones flag presentation
