A Stringer man is recovering after being attacked two weeks ago on Friday, July 9. According to Jasper County Sheriff, the unnamed victim suffered head and jaw injuries, along with a broken arm after being beaten with a baseball bat and pipe.
The altercation, according to locals, took place at the end of the victim’s driveway as he was taking out his trash. Sheriff Cross said that he could not elaborate on the motive behind the crime. The victim was taken to South Central Regional Medical Center. Reports claim that he had endured several surgeries on his eye, to have plates placed in his jaw and to repair a broken arm. He is reported to be recovering at home. Cross said, “It appears that his injuries are no long life-threatening.”
Three young men have been arrested in connection with the case. Two of the suspects are minors, ages 17 and 16, and have been charged with aggravated assault. Another man, Kolby Lane Waldrop, 18, was charged with accessory to assault.
Sheriff Cross said that before July 1, the 17-year-old could have been charged as an adult by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department. He said that a change in the law states that a gun would have to have to been involved. He said that the youth court judge does have the authority and jurisdiction to decide whether or not the young man will be charged as an adult.
