The Mississippi Department of Public Safety and the Mississippi Highway Patrol would like to announce the promotion of Raymond Delk from Acting Director of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation to MBI Director. His rank within the MBI will also change from major to lieutenant colonel.
A 26 year veteran of the highway patrol, Lieutenant Colonel Delk is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in criminal justice. He graduated the MHP’s cadet school in 1983 in trooper class #42.
Lieutenant Colonel Delk has worked in the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation since 1995 when he was promoted to master sergeant in the Meridian district. Lieutenant Colonel Delk led the central district of the MBI before being promoted to deputy director in November.
Lieutenant Colonel Delk was appointed MBI Acting Director by Governor Haley Barbour July 1 upon the retirement of Stanly Sisk.
Lieutenant Colonel Delk says he won’t change his approach to his job simply because his title has changed. “My approach to leading this department will be to roll my sleeves up and continue the hard work that our citizens expect. The MBI won’t slow down because the crimes we are investigating surely won’t stop,” said Delk.
Director of the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Albert Santa Cruz says Delk’s experience and approach to the job made him the best fit to lead the MBI.
“I’ve known Raymond Delk many years. You won’t find a more “by the book” investigator, someone who leads by example, than Lieutenant Colonel Delk. He is exactly who we need in that position,” said Director Santa Cruz.
Lieutenant Colonel Raymond Delk is a resident of Bay Springs.
